Dear Parents and Carers
I am sure you have heard yesterday’s news regarding Coronavirus; therefore, I am writing to inform you of Westhaven School’s plans as from Monday 4th January. On 4th January there will be our planned INSET. This is a full day of training that has been pre-planned for the staff team. We will also now be taking part in additional government training to ensure we keep our whole school community safe. The children will return as normal on Tuesday 5th January.
I am aware that some of you will have concerns about the return to school if your child is clinically vulnerable. I spoke to the Governing body yesterday evening and we would like to inform you that your child can be educated at home if you are very worried about the higher level of risk that the new virus presents in terms of transmitting at a faster rate and your child is clinically vulnerable. I would also like to reassure you that the systems within school are very strong and the whole school community works very hard at reducing transmission by following all government guidance.
If your child is clinically vulnerable and you opt to educate them at home please will you inform the transport department as this will help them with planning ahead. All systems, such as staggered starts and ends to the school day, will still be in place. As of Monday 11th January, all staff will be tested weekly to reduce the risks even further.
Before the return to school, and if your child has the capacity, it would be a good idea to talk through the Hands/Face/Space measures. As so many of our children and young people suffer from anxiety, I think it just needs to be a conversation about sticking to school procedures like using the hand sanitisers, washing hands three times a day, keeping to the one-way system. To be honest they have all been brilliant about this new system and have really been vigilant…so well done to all.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year! We look forward to our return to school on the 5th January.
Best regards
Ms Towler
