Just in case you missed it! Westhaven school was recently featured on the Repair Shop and Children in Need!!
Twelve years ago we sadly had a learner pass away which came as a great shock to the whole school community, his name was Etienne and he was a delightful young man.
Etienne’s parents donated money collected at his funeral to the school to have something in school in his memory and we commissioned a story teller’s chair, it was beautiful and enjoyed by all in school.
Over time it fell into disrepair and we were unable to find anyone to fix it for us.
Mrs W Vincent had been made the guardian of the chair so as a last resort she contacted the repair shop to see if they could help, they receive approx 60,000 requests a week so we were not that hopeful but to our surprise, they decided that they wanted to help us.
Mrs C Hicks and Mrs W Vincent travelled to Sussex and Will and Jay met us and said they would try their best to restore it to its former glory.
We then received a call from the BBC to say that they would like to feature the chair on BBC Children in Need, so off we went to Manchester to film the grand reveal,
It was quite an exciting experience for Mrs Vincent and Mrs Tuttiett. Mrs Hicks was unable to attend due to Covid so Mr Hicks and Etienne’s sister India came to Manchester.
The grand reveal was amazing and the chair looked better than ever with new additions that gave more meaning to its origins.
The chair will now have longevity and will be enjoyed by a whole new community of Westhaven children.
A big thank you to The Repair Shop team and all at the BBC Children in Need!
